FOR THIS CHILD I HAVE FOUGHT

As a creative there are times when a client will come into your orbit and push you to do and dream bigger and those are some of my scariest but BEST moments and Christina’s session was exactly that! During our consultation call we immediately clicked and decided that after the journey she had just experienced, this was a pregnancy and baby to celebrate in the biggest way and so we set out to create that experience for her and her adoring husband.

Nigerian Maternity Shoot with gele headdress
Nigerian Couple Maternity Session

We wanted to highlight the love of the family’s Nigerian heritage and we wanted to be sure to highlight their cultural pieces in their maternity session with traditional fabric in their draping and gele headdress. I loved the colors in their cloth and they’ve saved a piece for when Baby arrives and comes back in for their family shoot (I. Can’t. Wait!)

Christina suddenly and tragically lost her brother a year ago, it was very sad and trying time for her entire family, especially her mother. After years of trying to conceive we wanted to honor the memory of her now angel brother as a thank you for finally sending her Baby Boy as a comfort in a creative way with this set.

Randy was the most doting and supportive partner for Christina and his love for her clear. I think I might have put them in one pose and just let him love on her and captured the natural magic between them. How cute are they?

We knew we wanted to include a floral headpiece for a softer look and so I turned to Marie of Marie’s Bloom NYC to design a crown for our Mama to celebrate all things Boy Mom and she delivered

Last year I began to exploring adding more creativity for my clients and fell in love with creating belly casts customized just for them and their journey to Motherhood. When Christina learned of this she knew right away this was something she absolutely wanted as an additional keepsake to memorialize this preganancy.

We knew God was in it because the day we scheduled her to come in for her casting session just so happen to be the 1 year anniversary of her brother’s passing. We spent the morning talking about her journey and how she and her mom were dealing with their loss. When we talked about how she wanted her belly mold to be designed Christina told me she wanted to include peacock feathers and the color teal and left the details to me.

I. HAD. A. BALL!

Cowrie shells were once used a form of currency and are also a symbol of femininity, fertility, birth, and wealth so I sourced some pieces to create the casts man design streaming from top to bottom, from God to womb, highlighted with gold foil accents. Surrounding Mom we wanted it to be soft, feminine, elegant, and angelic so I designed the floral platform for her to stand in all her regal elegance. She was a VISION!

Her joy is palatable!

Christina and Randy what an honor it was to be a part of this chapter of your family’s story! Thank You so much for choosing us to work with to celebrate. I am so proud of the amazing and loving parents I already know you guys will be and can’t wait to see how God multiplies and blesses your union. Enjoy your prince, the fight was worth it!
